Cleaning Homes For A Living - Unskilled Labor Job?

Cleaning Homes for a Living - Is it really Unskilled Labor?I hear time and time again from others that, cleaning homes is an unskilled labor job. Is it though? There are so many factors that go into cleaning homes. There are so many “gray” areas.  Here are some things to ponder…Does everyone know what cleaning product to use on certain “problem” areas? For instance, does everybody know what to use on rust stains? How about that bluish /greenish stain in the tub? What about for mildew in the shower? What about on the stovetop, what is best to use on a glass stovetop? And what about sponges? Does everyone know that using a green pot and pan scrubber sponge can scratch the heck out of a lot of surfaces leaving them permanantly damaged? Can dollar store cleaners ruin the finishes on floors in a heartbeat? Will that green cleaner disinfect if disinfecting something is of importance? So many things to consider!I also hear “I have been through so many cleaning services, I’m still searching for a good one.”  But if cleaning is an unskilled labor job, why is it so hard to find someone or a company that is good?Cleaning is a very subjective thing as well. One person may think something is clean while another person may say “This needs a whole lot more scrubbing!”  What may be clean to one person may not be so clean to another person. Who sets the standard? You can hire a cleaning lady for $10-$15/hour maybe, but how long will that person take to clean that shower stall? How much experience do they have? Do you provide the supplies or do they? Could the trained person who costs more take ½ the amount of time but get it super clean because they know what product to use? Just things to think about! There really is so much to think about when cleaning homes. What products to use, what products not to use, common sense comes into play a lot and then don’t forget insurances! If someone uninsured gets hurt in the home, what happens? What if something breaks in the home, who will pay? Who would be responsible for these things? If I took my most seasoned cleaning person and put them with a person who “has cleaned their own home so knows how to clean”, you would be amazed at the difference of cleaning and how long it takes to clean. Cleaning may be considered an unskilled labor job by some, but training, good management along with experience in different situations makes a huge difference in the residential cleaning field!
